A married couple's quiet Tuesday afternoon turns into an unplanned confession, one that leaves them both wanting more than they've admitted, together.

It didn't happen in a bedroom. It happened on a Tuesday.

Her parents had just left. The house still smelled like her mother's perfume and overcooked chicken. I was unloading groceries, quietly judging the price of avocados, when Janet leaned against the counter and said:

"Don't freak out."

Which, historically, is never followed by anything calming.

I looked at her. "I'm already freaking out. You've just scheduled it."

She smiled. Nervous. That smile that means I've been rehearsing this in my head for days.

"Do you ever," she said carefully, "miss being wanted… in a way that's a little… dangerous?"

I paused. Put the milk in the fridge. Closed it. Opened it again, like the answer might be inside.

She rolled her eyes. "No. Not some polite metaphor. I mean… being with someone new. Together. Not sneaking. Not lying."

That landed heavy. I didn't crack a joke. Didn't soften it. I just stared at her.

"Okay. Pause. Where the hell is this coming from?"

She hesitated. That hesitation hit harder than anything she'd said so far.

"So let me guess," I continued. "This isn't about me forgetting to buy flowers. This is you telling me you've been thinking about fucking someone else."

She didn't flinch. "Yes," she said. "But not behind each other's back. I'm talking about us choosing it. Together."

There it was. And before my brain could assemble a response, my body did something incredibly inconvenient. I got hard. Not proud of it. Not romantic. Just a blunt, biological reaction that made me silently curse myself. I shifted my stance, hoping she wouldn't notice.

She noticed. Of course she did. Her eyes dropped for half a second. Then back up to my face.

"See?" she said quietly. "That's why I didn't want to turn this into a fight."

I exhaled. "You don't get points for ambushing me with honesty."

"I'm not trying to," she replied. "I'm trying to say this out loud before it turns into resentment."

I ran a hand through my hair. "So talk to me. Because right now my head is asking if I'm not enough… while the rest of me is apparently very interested."

She smirked. "That part of you has always been honest."

I laughed once. Short. "You know what's fucked up?"

She raised an eyebrow. "Tell me."

"I've thought about this too," I said. "I just filed it under 'things married men don't admit.' Watching. Sharing. Letting go a little… without losing you."

Her expression softened. "So you're not shocked."

"No." She stepped closer.

"I don't want to cheat," she said. "I want to explore. With you. I want to know that whatever happens, we're choosing it together."

That shut me up.

She lowered her voice. "I'm choosing you first. I just don't want you to be the only place my desire is allowed to exist."

I shook my head, half smiling. "You have a very fucked-up way of making a man feel wanted."

She smiled back. "You're still hard."

"Barely," I said. "And against my better judgment, my dick seems very optimistic."

Her grin widened. "Good," she said. "Because I think we've both been pretending this was hypothetical."

I held her gaze. "Careful," I said. "If we keep talking like this, we don't get to un-think it."

She tilted her head. "That's the point."

And that was the moment I knew this wasn't a phase, or boredom, or a complaint. It was alignment.
