Sex Toys are Most Popular in Florida
It turns out the sun doesn't only shine on Florida's beaches. Apparently, it's warming up quite a few bedrooms, too.
This particular set of results looks very different from what the Huffington Post reported back in 2012. That year, sex toy sales were highest in Wyoming and Alaska, and the motivations behind those purchases fell into two familiar camps: partnered women looking to bring more satisfaction into the bedroom, and single women exploring pleasure on their own terms. The same 2012 survey (1) found that Americans spend $15 billion a year on sex toys, that 44% of women aged 18 to 60 have used one, and that 78% of those women were in a relationship at the time.
The List
According to Amazon's 2016 sales data, these are the top 10 cities: (2)
1. Miami, Florida
2. Orlando, Florida
3. Alexandria, Virginia
4. Cambridge, Massachusetts
5. Seattle, Washington
6. Berkeley, California
7. Ann Arbor, Michigan
8. Atlanta, Georgia
9. Gainesville, Florida
10. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Amazon built the ranking from sales figures in cities with more than 100,000 residents. Three Florida cities in the top 10 is quite the showing. As for what people were actually buying, the essentials led the way with lube, condoms, vibrators and toy cleaner. Shoppers were also filling their carts with bondage gear and sex furniture, plus a little fetish jewelry for good measure.
